REKUT IN THE MAKING

MAINSTREAMING PEOPLE COMING FROM VULNERABLE AND MARGINALISED BACKGROUNDS

By 2025,
we aim to

Create 1000 Jobs

Avoid 1,000,000 Kg in Landfills

Our model is to go back to slow fashion with a purpose

What is pre-consumer textile waste?

Pre-consumer textile waste is textile that was produced in excess and unused by the factory or brand that ordered it. The reasons why excess fabric exists is due to production forecasting which is impossible to get highly accurate predictions. Hence, factories have to order extra materials just to make sure there is more than less to fulfill the orders.

What does upcycling mean?

Excess fabric can be transformed into new, useful products, by adding more creative value into it. From clothing to homeware, the possibilities are almost endless for REKUT.

How is that a good thing?

Not only these excess materials bring out an opportunity to create jobs, but repurposing pre-consumer textile waste within the fashion supply chain can also benefit the environment, including directing waste away from landfill and incinerators, conserving resources and providing a solution for the current shortages of natural resources and virgin fibre.

A PERSONAL MISSION

As a parent of a Child with special needs I fully understand the true meaning of inclusivity and equal opportunities.
As a race we have found solutions to complex problems yet we have been unsuccessful in developing a vaccine for greed.
We continue to push the boundaries to find life on another planet even before we find a solution for 1 billion (15 percent of our population) of us with some form of disability.
Our mission should also be to find “stars” on our planet and create a safety net for them and their parents who worry more about “what will happen to their child when they pass away” while grappling with the new Yin and Yang - Poverty and Disability.
People with different abilities are no less capable than many of us who are perceived to be able. This my son and our team at REKUT prove to us every day.
Even though the path forward is an uphill battle our moral responsibility is to find solutions to a complex problem. Please join us to make our world a better place.
